Open your mouth for the mute,
Prov 31:8-9
for the rights of all who are destitute.
Open your mouth, judge righteously,
defend the rights of the poor and needy.
It seems to me that this is an area of neglect. We can get so focused on ourselves looking inwardly either as individuals or as a church.
We get caught up in our concerns, and we get comfortable in our own place. As a result, we forget others. We forget that there are needy and oppressed people all around us.
God calls us to care for them, provide for them, and defend them. When God complained about the actions of his people through Isaiah, this is what he called them to do instead.
learn to do good;
Isa 1:17
seek justice,
correct oppression;
bring justice to the fatherless,
plead the widow’s cause.
So, it is worth considering whether we live up to this standard or if we are even trying.
