And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
John 14:3
Here is the hope that Jesus gives us. Here is the hope that we live by. He is coming again for a singular purpose. He is coming to retrieve his people and take them into His Kingdom to be with Him always and to see him in His full glory. For this, He will later pray:
Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.
John 17:24
We can think of many things that would make a place heavenly, but one thing alone makes heaven, heaven, the presence of God. His glory is on display there. It might sound to us, but in our completely redeemed state seeing God in all His glory will be enough to fill us with joy and cause us to rejoice for all eternity. Nothing else will do.
